Living independently is one of the most meaningful goals an NDIS participant can work toward — and with the right support, it is entirely achievable. Austin Abilities provides Supported Independent Living (SIL) services in Geelong, offering participants the in-home assistance they need to live as independently as possible, in their own home, on their own terms.
SIL is designed for individuals who require regular or continuous support with daily tasks but who wish to retain control over where they live and how they spend their time. Our dedicated support workers are available around the clock — helping participants with personal care, household tasks, meal preparation, medication management, and community engagement — while always fostering greater independence wherever possible. We never do for participants what they can do for themselves; instead, we build capability and confidence every single day.
At Austin Abilities, our SIL support is delivered by experienced, compassionate team members who understand that home is more than a place — it is where life happens. We take the time to understand each participant’s routines, preferences, and goals, creating a support environment that feels genuinely natural, respectful, and empowering. Whether you are transitioning from a family home, hospital, or another arrangement, our team will ensure the move into supported independent living is smooth, supported, and positive.

SDA (Specialised Disability Accommodation) refers to the physical home — a purpose-built or modified property. SIL refers to the support services provided inside the home, such as personal care and daily assistance. Many participants access both SDA and SIL through their NDIS plan, but they are funded separately.
SIL is funded under Core Supports in your NDIS plan. It is one of the higher-cost supports and typically requires a detailed assessment of your support needs. Austin Abilities can guide you through the process of applying for SIL funding and preparing the necessary documentation.
Yes. SIL support can be provided to participants living alone or in shared accommodation. The level and frequency of support is determined by the participant’s individual needs and what is included in their NDIS plan.
